It is 2022, COVID has finally taken a step back and people are leaving their homes, and what do people want when they go out? They eat!

Delhi has an incredible food culture, especially our north Indian cuisine. The capital is the home to a variety of eateries and restaurants from small cosy places in the Old Delhi markets to the highly esteemed fine dining places in hotels. Well until 2022 that fine dining space was dominated by Indian Accent, Varq and Bukhara and the three restaurants thrived in peace until a newcomer disrupted that peace…..that newcomer is LOYA at Taj Palace New Delhi.
The warm, inviting atmosphere struck me as I entered the restaurant. Right through the entrance, a heavenly bar awaits you decorated with a beautifully carved rock as the bar shelf that holds the most prestigious alcohols lit up with comforting warm lights, a masterful blend of traditional and modern elements transported me to a bygone era of Indian royalty. The soft glow of lanterns, the intricate carvings, and the plush furnishings all contributed to an ambience that was at once elegant and intimate.

The menu read like a gastronomic journey across India. From classic dishes to innovative creations, each option was a testament to the chef's skill and creativity. We opted to begin with the Loya Platter, a selection of appetizers that promised to showcase the restaurant's culinary prowess.
The platter arrived, and we were greeted by a vibrant medley of colors and aromas. The tender, flavorful seekh kebabs melted in our mouths, while the crispy, spiced papads added a satisfying crunch. The standout, however, was the Dahi Bhalla – a delicate, yogurt-based chaat that exploded with flavor and texture. It was a masterclass in balance and restraint, with each element complementing the others in perfect harmony.
For our main course, we chose the Loya Special Thali, a traditional Indian meal featuring a selection of dishes served with basmati rice and roti. The thali was a revelation – each component was expertly prepared and presented, with the rich, creamy korma and the fragrant, slow-cooked biryani vying for attention. The star of the show, however, was the dal makhani, a velvety, black lentil curry that was at once comforting and sophisticated.
As we savoured each bite, I couldn't help but appreciate the attention to detail that permeated every aspect of our meal. From the carefully selected ingredients to the thoughtful presentation, it was clear that the chefs at Loya were dedicated to preserving the rich culinary heritage of India.
As we concluded our meal with a sweet, creamy kulfi, I felt grateful for the experience.

In addition to its exceptional cuisine, Loya is also renowned for its impeccable service. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable, happy to answer our questions and make recommendations. The staff's dedication to providing an exceptional dining experience was evident in every aspect of our meal, from the prompt service to the thoughtful touches, such as the complimentary amuse-bouche and the refreshing palate cleansers.
Loya at Taj Palace, New Delhi, is more than just a restaurant – it's a culinary journey that will leave you enriched and inspired. Whether you're a food enthusiast, a history buff, or simply a lover of all things Indian, this iconic restaurant is a must-visit destination.
