Monday, 26th May 2025.
This date will be etched in my memory for as long as I live.
So well, we all know about Comorin, the restaurant that took Delhi by storm when it opened at One Horizon Centre back in 2018. Comorin was a breath of fresh air in the modern dining environment, especially when considering Indian cuisine. In a scene dominated by restaurants like Indian Accent and Varq, how was this modern indian establishment looking to differentiate itself from these placeholders, and what ended up making it so special, and my favourite place to dine at, so much so that I flew to Mumbai for its pre-opening at Peninsula Corporate Parke, Lower Parel!!

So, ladies and gentlemen, sit tight and grab some drinks because here is my experience of Comorin Mumbai and how this brand came to be.
I was there on Monday at the Peninsula Corporate Park in Lower Parel for the Comorin Mumbai speed opening. It was the most beautiful experience I had in my life with stunning interiors, intensely flavoured food, and drinks that were simply out of this world. I started my night off with the Fennel Paloma, moved on to the grazing table, and was blown away. I got reminded of why I like Comorin so much, taking the comfort of traditionality and surprising us with the inspiration they take from all around the world, with dips like pindik chol humus, theas Sakri, my personal favourite, masala Chicken Liver Paté, Mutton Seekh Paté, and Curry Podi Ricotta, served with Garlic Naan Lavash and mushroom truffle straws. It was simply lovely, but the mains were the star of the show for me with the Kathal Nihari, which felt exactly like a mutton nihari straight from Chandni Chowk, the Lobster Khichdi has become the only khichdi I will ever have willingly, and of course, one of my favourites, the Aam ki Kadi with Khoba Roti. It was a beautiful experience with the mains, but the desserts took me by surprise. The Malai Chini Toast reminded me of my childhood, and the Jigarthanda Tres Leches made me question life itself with such exquisite flavour combinations.
It was a perfect end to a perfect meal!
Comorin, Mumbai, offers a vibrant and inviting atmosphere, characterised by its elegant design and warm colour palette. The space features a blend of luxury and comfort, with plush seating, a well-stocked bar, and a focus on communal dining, making it an ideal spot for both casual meals and social gatherings. At Comorin, the menu unfolds like a vibrant tapestry of Indian flavours, each dish a masterpiece designed to ignite the senses. Guests embark on a culinary adventure, savouring innovative small plates that are perfect for sharing or diving into heartier entrees that showcase the freshest local treasures. The attentive staff, akin to knowledgeable guides, are ever-ready to suggest the ideal pairing from their stunning array of wines and handcrafted cocktails, ensuring each meal is an enchanting soiree. Whether basking in a leisurely brunch or partaking in a lively dinner with friends, Comorin promises a spellbinding escape into the realm of exquisite cuisine and conviviality.
Beyond the excellent food and beverage experience, this particular pre-opening blessed me with industry interactions that will be remembered for years to come. My time with Chef Dhirag Dargan provided me with insights, ideas, and the origins of what has become my favourite restaurant.......Comorin.
Question: How did Comorin come to be?
Chef Dhiraj answered enthusiastically. "In a market with establishments like Indian Accent, Comorin was supposed to build a community...a place with elevated cuisine that is approachable, accessible, and where people can get together to have a good time!" he exclaimed.
Question: The menu, of course, has been a talking point. It's unique, it's inspired, and most importantly, it's delicious. What was the thought process behind this sort of menu?
"Comorin was always supposed to be a place of casual dining which serves elevated cuisine. With our menu, we tried to modernise traditional indian cooking, the comfort foods. We draw inspiration from around the world, while maintaining the core traditionality of the dish. It's a blend of the modern and the traditional. It's creative and vibrant!" he explained.
Question: Over the years, I have seen that the bar menu and the bar itself have been an integral part of the restaurant's identity and the vibe it sets. What was the thought process behind it?
"The bar has played a big role. We have some guests coming in just for it; we also have some who come in for the food, and, of course, many come for the full experience. The bar provides a stage for conversation and community building, and so does the food. Both are equally integral to our identity," he answered.
Comorin isn't just a restaurant, it's an experience. I have always had a great time whenever I have visited, and the Mumbai pre-opening did not disappoint at all.
Comorin transcends the traditional dining experience by offering a unique blend of culinary innovation and cultural richness. Each visit promises not only a feast for the palate but also a celebration of India's diverse flavours and hospitality. The anticipation surrounding the Mumbai pre-opening was met with the same excellence, ensuring that diners continue to find themselves drawn into the warm and welcoming atmosphere that Comorin consistently delivers. If you're seeking a dining experience that excites and inspires, Comorin is a destination worth exploring.
